Man Shot and Killed by Moore County Deputy After Random Shots Fired at Car

A man was shot and killed Saturday night by a Moore County deputy.

The shooting took place around 11 p.m. on N.C. Highway 24/27 at the intersection with Pineywood Church Road, near Cameron.

According to the Moore County Sheriff's Office, a driver traveling on N.C. 24/27 was randomly fired upon but was not injured.

Witnesses at the scene told the WRAL Breaking News Tracker that random gunfire struck a car. When deputies arrived, they located the individual believed to have fired the shots.

Deputies confronted the suspect, which resulted in the suspect being shot and killed.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has taken over the investigation, as is standard procedure in law enforcement-involved shootings.
